Standing our Ground with Aiki jiu jitsu Apologetics
Standing Our Ground
There are three components to standing our ground for the Christian World View.
1) Prepare our children for the onslaught of intellectual predators. 2) Strengthen and maintain the faith of all believers through reason. 3) Build a bridge to those on the “other side” with the reasons for our faith.
There are two methods for standing our ground for the Christian World View.
“Always be prepared to Give an Answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that you have.” 1 Peter 3:15
Taekwondo Apologetics
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10
1 Peter 3:15 is the nice approach. If someone “ASKS YOU to give a reason for the hope that you have” naturally it’s apropos to respond with “GENTLENESS AND RESPECT”.
But if I come after you or your children with an intellectual baseball bat with intent of bodily harm are you going to respond with “gentleness and respect”? It doesn’t apply does it? I think Paul addresses this well in 2 Corinthians 10 when he says “DEMOLISH ARGUMENTS” and “TAKE CAPTIVE EVERY THOUGHT”
In Taekwondo the best defense is a good offense. Simple and straightforward: block and counter. It is the most effective Martial Arts strategy for beginners because it is simple and direct. It gives beginners tools they can use now. When practiced and practiced and practiced they become second nature, enabling swift defense to unprovoked attacks.
Aiki jiu jitsu is the most powerful of all martial arts but very difficult to learn, involving a lifetime of dedicated study and practice to master. It can deactivate a threat without injury to the opponent, or… well, you know. It does not require physical strength to overcome a strong adversary. A doddering old man can incapacitate a young man in the prime of life. Unlike Taekwondo there is no clash thus it’s considered a gentle, close contact martial art -gentle for the practitioner not necessarily for the opponent. It is done by redirecting the opponents own bad intent, attention and physical energy back at him by understanding the laws of physics and actively exploiting their ignorance of these laws. A continuous, dynamic, ongoing analysis of leverage, mechanics, gravity, momentum, centrifugal force and balance reveal their weak spots at any moment in time. Essentially the opponent is a puppet in the hands of the practitioner.
All Apologetics practitioners should be students of the art of 1 Peter 3:15 from day one, however 2 Corinthians 10 must be taught alongside so that the student is not defenseless as his knowledge and understanding of the Truth deepens and his proficiency at articulation grows.
If you are interested in Apologetics you know Christianity is under attack. Always under attack. I personally know it from both sides: I used to be one of those who attacked Christians. Intellectually I was once a Christian killer, and I can tell you from personal experience Christians-do-not-have-a-defense! They are defenseless! Let me repeat myself: they are defenseless!
It’s a battleground out there. Let’s start our children with basic defensive techniques while developing the higher ideals and skills of the gentle, respectful way.
