Let’s cut to the chase: Apologetics is about right thinking. Reason and logic. First and foremost. That is its core.
Whatever you once thought otherwise -fuhgeddaboudit.
Right thinking is not isolated to Apologetics, because it applies to everything, and is employed when seeking the truth in anything, anywhere, anytime, anyplace.
General Revelation or Special Revelation.
Whether studying, scripture, physics, religion, biology, philosophy, history, theology, geology or anything else for that matter, the requirement of right thinking to reach successful conclusions and true understanding is universal.
Those who think the need for Apologetics is optional or unnecessary are clearly unclear about what Apologetics is, and why it’s critical for critical thinking and how it’s an essential part of The Great Commission (especially in modern times).
Furthermore, Christians that turn a blind eye to reason in scripture are contending against scripture itself, and in the case of 1 Peter 3:15 countermanding the Apostle Peter when he wrote “Always be prepared to Give an Answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”
How do we continually (“always”) add to, organize and integrate (“be prepared”) our knowledge and understanding of God (“the reason”) so that our thoughts can clearly articulate (“give an answer”) the hope that we have, if not by thinking, logic and reason?
The hope that we have wouldn’t make sense without it.
1 Peter 3:15
“Always be prepared to
Give an Answer
to everyone who asks you
to give the reason
for the hope that you have.”
2 Corinthians 10
“We demolish arguments
and every pretension
that sets itself up against
the knowledge of God,
and we take captive every thought
to make it obedient to Christ.”
Matthew 22:37
Jesus replied:
“‘Love the Lord your God
with all your heart
and with all your soul
and with all your mind.’”
