Would it be significant if Jesus modified Old Testament Scripture by adding a word?
It would be blasphemous if he were merely a man, but highly significant if he was God as he claimed to be.
Would you agree?
Moreover, wouldn’t you think we ought to sit up and take notice?
In addition wouldn’t the significance be compounded further if the change were made in response to one of the most important questions you and I or a Pharisee could ask?
The stakes of missing the point would be even higher, right?
What is the Old Testament Scripture? What is the question? What did Jesus say? What was the word?
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your MIND.’ [Capitalization/underline added]
The word that changes how we love the Lord our God.
Is it significant? Is it important?
Would Jesus have added the word if he didn’t think it was?
What do you think?
