Whose Messiah was Jesus?
Was He the Messiah?
How could we know?
By the evidence.
Several lines of evidence are revealed when this question is examined.
Prophecy is one of them.
The first eight seconds of “The Passion of the Christ” movie begins with this powerful abbreviation of Isaiah 53:
He was wounded for our transgressions,
crushed for our iniquities; by His wounds
we are healed.
I was unprepared for the personal impact this scripture written 700 years before the birth of Christ would have when I saw the movie as a new Christian in 2004.
It was not only clearly a prophesy of what Jesus would suffer, why he would suffer and for whom, but also a prophesy that he would suffer for me!
That brought it home. That made it personal.
Here was objective evidence in the form of prophecy that Jesus was not only The Messiah, He was my Messiah!
He’s yours too. If you’ll only accept His invitation.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
