Why is life so hard?
Who hasn’t asked that question?
No one is immune to life’s difficulties. Even those born with a silver spoon in their mouth encounter disease, accident, heartache, loneliness, calamity, fortune reversal and old age.
Some argue against the story of Adam and Eve’s disobedience to God as the beginning of a hard life for humanity. They disagree with the claim that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. I get that. I once belonged to their ranks before I took the time to “follow the evidence where it leads.” These people don’t deny that life is hard but they only have eyes for a naturalistic explanation. So be it. One exists: The Second Law of Thermodynamics.
The most established Law of Nature, the Second Law of Thermodynamics “holds the supreme position among the laws of nature” according to Arthur Eddington. “If your theory is found to be against the Second Law of Thermodynamics I can give you no hope; there is nothing for it but to collapse in deepest humiliation.”
Few would argue with Eddington’s statements; none coherently.
The Second Law of Thermodynamics basically states that the universe is running out of usable energy and becoming more disorderly over time. The term Entropy is a measure of that disorder. Like a wind-up clock running down (do they still make those?), the universe itself is winding down. Not just the astronomical universe, but everything in the physical universe! Our homes, our cars, our bodies, our relationships, and our thinking. It cannot be bypassed, broken, escaped or ignored. To be unaware of or behave as if exempt from this law guarantees personal failure -because it is intertwined and embedded in everything we do.
This is the reason life is hard.
This is how the Physical Sciences, AKA Physics, explains it. This is the purely naturalistic explanation of GENESIS 3:17-19
So what can we do about entropy? How can our approach turn it into a positive? How can it be here for our good? And why? We’ll continue that discussion in my next blog: “Money is a Medium of ENERGY Exchange -Capitalism at it’s Core!”
To Adam he said,
“Because you listened to your wife
and ate fruit from the tree about which
I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”
